Michigan State Senate passed House Bill 4163 Take Action

Today the Michigan State Senate passed House Bill 4163. It was a bittersweet moment - even though the terrible license to bully based on a religious conviction was removed, our State Senate passed a weak bill without any of the protections that would make kids in Michigan safer.

“Directed by the biases of a few, our Senate missed another opportunity to do right by our kids.” -Emily Dievendorf, Director of Policy, Eqaulity Michigan

This bill now moves to Governor Snyder’s desk. Governor Snyder needs to understand that our kids deserve protection, no matter who they are, and it must be taken seriously. Let him know - call his office. Send emails. Write letters. Tell Governor Snyder that we need a bill that requires statewide reporting standards and enumerated targeted characteristics. It is time for our state government to recognize that bullying is a legitimate problem in our state, and one that needs to be rectified. Now.
